Politics and its management from social networks
Politics is an important part of life that has also reinvented the advances of new information and communication technologies (ICTs), and more specifically with the massive boom of social networks and the Internet. Social networks are a mass media that use almost half of the world’s population and in them there is a great framework for doing political marketing given its great scope, which exceeds all barriers, including geographical, and represent an excellent strategy forinfluence followers’ behavior.
The term was born after the 2008 presidential elections in the United States, when Barack Obama team decided to use social networks and different web platforms to capture votes, which gave excellent results, also allowing him to raise millions of dollars to manage hiscampaign. Now, the term has obtained great relevance in the areas of communication and politics.
But politics goes beyond only propaganda for candidates and parties in the framework of elections, in which it is sought to raise voters through different media, such as social networks, which now have greater prominence than traditional media;It is also a tool to show closely the dynamics of politicians’ work from the inside and show their followers more closely, even changing or modifying public opinion on them and their party;and also exalt your good reputation.
Social networks management is an excellent example, through them it is possible to build a favorable opinion on parties or candidates, or quite the opposite. Many politicians are using these tools to interact more personally with their followers, for example, making follow -up publications in events they attend, or that are of importance for the community, always doing it from their perspective, that is, coveringof his experience and pointing to his participation. Also, emphasizing how this can benefit the community, so the work that the character is doing and its effectiveness in the work is shown. It is a way of accountability to the voters, while the space for dialogue opens.
As mentioned above, social networks are also a tool to achieve vote, more specifically the young vote, this since at least 50% of users in them are between 18 and 45 years. Given this reality, it is increasing. This is why, more and more, political parties and public figures strive to add content such as videos, photos and infographics to their profiles.
The concept of policy, although it is something recent, has generated different opinions and positions. In the political book, the citizen reinvention of politics, one of its authors, framework. Paz Pellat, adds that this concept “(…) refers to the efforts of citizens who participate in the planning, administration, management, decision and monitoring of public policies using collective intelligence through social networks enabled for this purpose. Also, through politics, the electorate resorts to the Internet to organize and participate massively in the political campaigns of their candidates, who in this way seek to ensure their triumph. (…)
Experts point out that, at present, those politicians and parties that have sporadic presence on social networks have less exposure and therefore less followers, less reach in their campaigns compared to those who use networks as a tool to do politics.
