Personality and change in the stages of life

When talking about personality, you usually think about development during childhood and adolescence, but in adulthood and especially in old age there is a development of such impact as in other stages of life? We have to keep in mind that adult life occupies two thirds of the total duration of life and that at this stage there is a very important decision -making process such as: living alone, having a job, marrying, forming a home, etc. But there are currently many difficulties in finding this ideal stability, since a job is not easy, which makes it more difficult to become independent, have their own home, have a stable relationship, among other factors that characterize adulthood.

Compared to the stages of childhood and adolescence; The adult stage is socially and culturally marked since the characteristics of the subjects are delimited depending on the cultural moment of which they are also participating adulthood and old age have greater interindividual differences which differentiate some subjects from the others, although clearly theadult actions are regulated by social guidelines or laws. At this stage there are less biological and psychological delimitants, so as the human being ages it is differentiated more from its peers.

Adult age brings with it the acceptance of challenges especially in three aspects where adult behavior develops: work, love (affective or family) and leisure. In work, it is usually related to psychosocial development, in love with the development of personality and leisure that is the prolongation of a very important aspect in childhood the game, since the adult develops hobbies, but in some cases they areThey can become a pathological inclination.

Adaptation is a key ability in the life of any human being, but this is of vital importance in the stage of adulthood because decision making and strategies can lead adults to situations where survival is important to have someQuality of life, but because of the speed in which our society lives and the transition of the years has complicated the acquisition of this ability. Clearly throughout this process the adult will go through changes, stages and crises and to specify that aspect the author cites several authors such as Erickson, Levinson, Gould;where each one exposes different stages with various durations to explain this phase;Of course there may be several crises as any may not be presented; But possibly the common denominator of crises is the awareness that youth and all its expectations and dreams are a matter of the past.

But with the passage of time, adulthood becomes old -age and together with this, some biological threats arrive, but also of a social type especially in the matter of retirement since the decrease in responsibilities, decrease in activities, follows from this, decreased activities, decrease in activities, decreased activitiesand the end of development at work, among other aspects; In a nutshell "the elderly feels progressively oblivious to the world around him" (Fierro, 1994), and this can lead to problems such as isolation, depression and even suicide.

When the late adulthood is finally presented, there is talk of the proximity of death, which in previous stages was quite distant;Clearly this experience mixes feelings, reflections, regrets and memories, where the acceptance of the life cycle that comes to an end and the willingness to defend until the last moment the dignity of life against all kinds of exterior threats makes Erikson the person definehis identity.

Personally I liked this text quite a lot since I did not know that personality presented such extreme changes in these stages of life and makes me reflect on how I am preparing for these stages, I finally relate it to a bit curious news where some older adults fulfill theirdreams with the use of virtual reality and how by the use of it reduces the levels of depression, anxiety and stress in them.
