Movements in the University Community

Introduction

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in all its trajectory has been involved in a series of struggles, which in essence have sought the search for well -being for the university community. It is necessary to highlight those that occurred in the 60s, in which, the main purpose consisted of the elaboration of proposals for social transformations and the institution itself. Particular interest in the deep knowledge of that process has been shown, in the understanding that currently many ignore what the University Renewal Movement (MRU), a mobilization of a social and academic nature that led to the emergence of new paradigms meant.

Developing

Orienting the university towards the opening of development through research, the free expression of thought, political ideologies, sowing the seeds of peace, democracy, social justice and equity for all Dominicans. This movement favored the openness to the teaching and extension of the UASD towards the regional centers, which are currently exhibited and house in them multitudes of students, employees and teachers, of all the social sectors of the Nation and of foreigners who chooseCome to the country to take university careers. When analyzing the knowledge and valuation that citizens from different sectors of this great house of studies have on this movement.

It is evident that there are really many students and employees who do not know the principles supported by the MRU, in the order of sovereignty, national independence, ideological and academic motivations of the university reform raised by the renovating movement in the context of the April of Aprilof 1965. The main motivations of the university reform raised by MRU refer to teaching, extension and research activities.  In the same way, the strengthening of democracy was sought, in addition to ensuring that the institution is open and provide opportunities to the popular and most disadvantaged sectors. 

Highlighting then the struggle for democratization in the university and the political decentralization of the government. An achievement that was obtained thanks to the MRU was to have converted the UASD into the University of all, where the Dominican people had the opportunity to study a university career, without obstacles for its social, or economic status. In the same way, this movement had influence between employees, teachers and university authorities. With the commissioning of the Organic Statute of 1966, the employees conferred by the right to have a delegated representative before the University Council, elected by their association. The educational reform in the MRU also significantly impacted the administration and institutionalization of the university.
