Logistics leadership in the supply chain

Introduction.

Within organizations are several processes, which help compliance with a general objective; The continuity of these processes forms the supply chain, which are dependent on each other. A clearer definition of the supply chain: it refers to the process of displacement of information and material to this means that in the course of this chain, it makes the required product or service reach the desired conditions.

The basic agents of any supply chain are: suppliers, manufacturing, storage, logistics, customers and purchase or purchasing management;Where logistics is a transverse factor throughout the chain and is involved in the entire production process, from the acquisition of the raw material, until you reach both the client and final consumer.

According to Chase and Jacobs, the flow of information and goods are related to optimal control of each process that leads to perform them in a good way, whether from the selection of suppliers, their adequate management against the quality and delivery times (external suppliers orinternal), until the marketing and transport of the resulting product or service.

Developing.

To better explain this process chain, which are evidenced in Figure 1, the main elements of a supply chain are highlighted; As are the suppliers to commercialization and transport, where logistics is involved in each process and additionally interacts in reverse, therefore, logistics is very dynamic. On the other hand, in this dynamism that logistics acts in its inverse effect, the main product that is in process is information, since it makes the results obtained and identify what its success was or on the contrary its error.

There is also a great need for supply and demand for proper management in the chain, given that when knowing the supply or demand requested, the results are more convenient and clear in the strategy, control the supply of amounts requested in thetimely moment, complying with the required standards and in the appropriate times that help a better result of the processes without delays.

In order for this flow of material and information to be efficient and timely, you must have a leadership and commitment initiative by each individual who forms the supply chain. According to the Colombian Technical Standard NTC-ISO 9001, it says that leadership must be demonstrated from senior management, therefore, it must be a reference for the entire company. Within leadership, the supply chain must be dynamic regarding the flow of information, where each person who is part of the process assumes their role and responsibility in the chain.

Additional that the people involved within the supply chain are aware of their role, it should be noted that the managers of each process must be dynamic and demonstrate with example a good leadership exercise to achieve total integration. In addition, when people are clear about their role in the chain, their commitment is reflected in the results, it is possible that being aware of what are the consequences of doing a good job from the managerial point of view, the other members of thechain are aware in the same way

Therefore, within the supply chain each process must be well backed by a good leadership exercise, where if each responsibility is azum it gives positive results and help to provide a good and effective process of this chain. On the other hand, logistics is only used to solve momentary problems is not the management option to prevent problems from being presented.;In other words, companies seek in the supply chain solutions for the short term, but do not receive a long -term forecast.

Not only is it a problem to be uncertain. In order to achieve good results, senior management must actively participate in this. In other words, people in charge of leading the supply chain must design a strategy to prevent possible difficulties and the people involved are in the ability to react properly.

Regarding leadership within the supply chain, it is worth clarifying that when there is an adequate organization within it, and that each person is aware of the consequence of a good or bad decision within their role in the chain, will helpThere are better results. Similarly, the person in charge of leading must be the one who teaches, questions, proposes and visualizes, that is, it projects, in other words, the leader must go hand in hand with his collaborators and the process so that the results are in formcollaborative.

Conclusions.

This results in improvement, where people involved throughout the chain contribute to the efficiency of the processes, help to give more effective results and the processes are simpler, therefore, the chain will work better. It is worth clarifying that each member of the supply chain is valuable for the process, since from the person in charge of loading, discharging and transfer of the merchandise, to the managers of each process help due operation of the chain. It is possible that a person within the chain who does not become aware of responsibility, does not assume his role and does not focus on contributing to the improvement of the process, this will be affected; It is relevant that each person in the chain is aware of their role.
