Leo Tolstoy, the Russian novelist, viewed the novel not only as an entertainment source but an instrument for psychological teaching and reform. Through his views, we can get to know others, especially ones who seem unappealing from the outside appearance, thus increasing our humanitarian tolerance ("LITERATURE: Leo Tolstoy"). Tolstoy was born at Yasnaya Polyana, south of Moscow in 1868. As a kid, his parents died and was raised up by relatives. He dropped out of the university; one tutor referred to him as being both unable and unwilling to study.
