Name Tutor Course Date Miguel's Music Video, "Candles in the Sun" Calling this video unique is an understatement. This Miguel’s Grammy-winning song was released in 2012 and going through I; one cannot help but notice the different images projected which beg the question, what message he is conveying? On the one hand, he seems to be planting doubt in the minds of the viewer by dishing out questions like “Is there a God” (MiguelVEVO) and if she is watching, while on the other hand, he seems to conclude that “I am sure he’s watching” (MiguelVEVO). Ironically, the words “wisdom is seeing things from God’s perspective” (MiguelVEVO) appear as the video starts then the first verse starts by questioning the whole existence of God. It appears this is a well thought and a deliberate strategy that will get the audience thinking about many social issues he brings up in this song. Like many other songs with content and a message to the society, this one is not devoid of the struggle between the privileged and the unfortunate, but the blame is placed squarely on the government. People sleeping on the streets with captions like ‘how does freedom to feel’ (MiguelVEVO) is the perfect example of this struggle. There are those who are treated unjustly by the same system that preserves high ranking criminals. Handcuffs, guns, tears, a tattered flag just express raw criticism directed towards a government that would leave people unaided because of mindless bureaucracy.
