Epistemology and feminist methodology

As a category of analysis, the way in which the results of our research is analyzed based on the context, situation, of how we feel, see and act in a certain population is analyzed. This condition promotes elements to understand a phenomenon and how women affect in this case.

The knowledge located

For many authors and authors when referring to the knowledge located in feminist research the following:

Harding (as cited in Espín, 2012) says "knowledge is/is always socially located" this means that knowledge is linked to the way of life, its development, its sexual orientation, its values, organizational forms, you do not knowYou can do a biased and remote investigation to reality, to understand their power relationships, life practices. Conventional investigations have theoretical bases of positivism and capitalism, which has supported history that was created by men leaving the contributions of women, an investigation will never be objective if gender stereotypes are still managed, sexist ideas in relation towomen and men within research.

The knowledge located refers to placing ourselves in the relations of men and women, within their culture, parenting patterns, class, ethnicity, language, community to understand the reason for certain behaviors that legitimize violence, oppression, inequality, machismo andenhance a dominant patriarchal system.

In the knowledge located, it must interpret and analyze the situations or problems that can occur according to age, sexual violence in girls, adolescents, adults or women of the elderly is not the same, when we are located in those characteristics or variables, it allows us to obtain amore specific knowledge in relation to these inequalities and problems that women live throughout the world or in a particular community. Knowing how an ethnic and age group affects a situation gives us elements to understand the dimension and the effects that can be generated, how other subtle manifestations of violence are generated, which we should take advantage of to create intervention and prevention strategies taking as an exampleViolence against women and how this affects girls, women and women of the elderly.

The contributions in relation to the knowledge located according to Haraway that allows us to rethink our research strategies and techniques:

  • There are no forms of natural and passive observations, all of us who do in the investigation position us somewhere to generate and understand what happens in a certain place.
  • All forms of observation are located and respond to the areas and spaces in which social subjects represent and mean a reality, all knowledge is acquired in different contexts with differentiation between social relationships between men and women.
  • The observation occurs and is mediated by marked gender positions that show inequalities and injustices.
  • Feminist objectivity means the recognition of how we look and that we learn, and how we return that information for the construction of new relationships.
  • Relativist looks do not lead us to know the different realities, these invisibility looks differentiated realities from one population to another.

Women as cognitive subjects

In order for women to be political subjects in the production of knowledge, it is due to the feminism of the former and according to Ola since it had a relationship unleashed by the movement of the suffragist feminists at the time when the right to vote is required, access to theEducation This first struggle achieved, women access the university education to begin writing and developing studies, contributions, theories that were rejected at the time. Women begin to make lawsuTheories to demonstrate existing inequalities.

Considering us as political subjects in research means recognizing 1. Our privilege when accessing the academy, 2. Understand that our point of view from feminism will contract challenges and challenges to change the way of making popular knowledge and located in the diverse realities of women, 3. Our contribution to change women’s realities must arise from the various experiences of women in their diversity and contradictions, 4. Being women in the construction and acquisition of knowledge implies exercising the rights earned by other women and who must forge actions that allow access more efficiently, conscious to privileges to generate theories and new contributions of women without devaluing their cultural practices, political, and empirical.

As defined (Salgado, 2008) "Feminist researchers are constituted as subjects capable of knowing and creating knowledge about themselves, about other women, about other gender subjects, about the world and about nature". From access to university it was women who have contributed in the opening of courses, specialties for other women to access this privilege and opportunity to change our situation.

Feminism with a category of analysis and production of theories to explain and describe the phenomena and situations of injustice, violence, discrimination, inequality that women live, demand and demand that states, governments, academy, society change those practices built throughof time, integrating ourselves as political subjects aware of this reality that pushes us to solidarity, to manifest ourselves to cling to the other ways of living based on values of justice, solidarity, community, empathy and preservation of life.

Conclusions

Knowing and approaching feminism has allowed me to question actions in public and private areas in relation to discrimination and violence against women. It has generated theoretical and practical knowledge to generate changes from my work space in promoting women’s rights, application of the theory to guarantee access to public and basic services to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of peasant women.

Analyzing the importance of feminist research and epistemology strengthens my ability to interpret women’s realities from their experience, experience and empirical knowledge. Knowing that there is a different way of building knowledge from a political position allows to demonstrate and create alternatives for the transformation of reality.

For feminist research it is clear that the neutrality and objectivity of traditional sciences has limited the understanding of the realities of the population, moving away from people stigmatizing and labeling research subjects.
