Most people confuse it for Mexico’s Independence Day. However, this is not the case as the independence day is celebrated on the 16th of September. Cinco de Mayo marks Mexico’s victory over the Franco-Mexican war that took place on May 5th, 1862 at Puebla (Doering, 2016). This success brought a lot of pride to the country because it was an unlikely win. This from the fact that the Mexican Militia were greatly outnumbered by the French army. Due to this reason, this great day is celebrated up to date. Surprisingly enough, this holiday is more significant in the United States, Greenville among other Hispanic communities more than even in Mexico. Hispanic can be defined as an ethnicity group sharing similar language, history, and culture. This team consists of up to 18%of the total American population. That figure totals up to 57 million Latinos living in the U.S. however; it is important to note that the Latin Americans and the Hispanic come from various geographic, social and economic background. This makes them very different from the national originality and family backgrounds (Downs, 2013). Of importance to note is that it, the cultural similarities that bring them together from the diverse backgrounds.
