Book a happy world, a futuristic society

"A happy world" shows us a futuristic society where the inhabitants of this have been created by science, with a complete human intervention, in laboratories, with the absence of a family and grow with a respective education to the social class in which they will belong. However, everyone lives in a "happy" world but things are not quite good as it would appear, since man is missing sensitivity, real emotions and not only those that have been taught to feel, because you can’tlive in a happy world if there is sadness. Therefore, in this essay I will demonstrate that the cure of sadness with drugs is not viable for humanity, since sadness is a feeling necessary for society and repressing it, we would be ending our own essence as human beings.

According to the Psychoglobal page:

Emotions help us make decisions and adapt to reality, whether this positive or negative. Sadness is the emotion that activates the psychological process that allows us to overcome losses, disappointments or failures. It allows us to establish distance with painful situations to boost the internalization and healing of pain generated by them. Likewise, feeling sadness helps us empathize with the sadness of others and thus create support and comfort networks.

Now, we know that happiness is an emotion that is distinguished in society for being more "friendly", but it is poorly understood. Happiness is not synonymous with "correct", since just as it is enlarge. Happiness is personal and expresses itself in different ways. The previous explanation is because, not for being happy, you will be stable. In the book "A happy world", it is understood that in the new civilization, happiness is the basis of stability, because joy promotes enjoyable treatment between people and how their opposite is sadness, this emotion is understoodas hostile to the New World. However, there is great confusion with this emotion that is seriously repressed.

As Psychoblog says, all emotions are equally important and necessary for mental stability, sadness is escontial in resolving certain problems. But … why does the new civilization repress this emotion? Well says the book, before Ford times, the world was in decline and society in suffering. This pain was associated with sadness, because it promoted individuality and that was ineffective for a world that is supported by all. Joy is the best solution to maintain society in perfect functionality.

The wheels must turn continuously, but not randomly. There must be men to watch them, men as safe as the same wheels in their axes, sensible, obedient, stable, satisfied men. If they shout: "My son, my mother, my only love";If they murmur: "My sin, my terrible God";If they cry with pain, they will delire fever, they suffer from old age and poverty … how can they take care of the wheels? And if they cannot take care of the wheels … it would be very difficult to bury or burn the bodies of thousands and thousands and thousands of men and women.

In this event the concern of the lyrical speaker is clearly seen, since he explains that society is supported by human beings, all working for all. Sadness hinder the process and we would fall back into misery.

From a point of view, the appointment says something, which specifically is correct. If you want a clock to work perfectly, all gears must be in perfect synchronization. The problem is that the human being is not simply a gear. What makes us special as humans, are the different ways of thinking and acting, which together form a network of diversity from where we can support each other. If we all work in the same way, we would lose our essence and we would not be different from a robot. "Hypnopedia" is a process by which children are instructed while sleeping. In the following appointment the meaning will be clearly seen and with it its explanation of how it affects the mind.

It will still be repeated forty or fifty times before they wake up, and the same in Thursday’s session, and again on Saturday. One hundred twenty times, three times a week, for thirty months. After which can go to a more advanced lesson. Rosas and electrical discharges, the chaqui of the deltas and a foul vaho, indissolubly related to each other before the child knows how to speak. But the conditioning without words is something rough and gross; No more subtle distinctions can be made, no more complex forms of behavior can be instilled. For this the words are required, but words without reasoning.

As he had said, children are instructed with an ideology, which seems more an algorithm in their system (such as robots), so that everyone thinks in the same way and they never question anything. In this way they keep the population controlled, without freedom and preventing conflicts between society. From a very superficial point of view, this may resemble a very tempting solution. The big problem occurs when, by living in a lie, if people managed to see the reality of things, the conflict would explode in a mutinied war against a controlling government; The consequences of this would still be worse.

In the book, there are two characters that mainly live in reality. Bernard and John. Bernard knows that everyone lives chained to an ideology and decides to stay out of it, while John lives outside her, being separated from others, but believes to be part of them and others see it that way;he is happy. John does not need to consume "soma", therefore, he lives his reality that is happiness and is fine. The difference is that, although other people are equally happy, they live within ideology and need to consume "soma" to stay happy. John does not need to suppress his sadness with drugs since he does not need them, because he knows that it is not necessary.

Once the above explained, we will see what it means to be able to perceive sadness and live outside the bottle, being aware of the situation. "Yes, today everyone happy. That is what we tell children from the age of five. But wouldn’t you like to have the freedom to be happy … otherwise? In your own way, for example;not everyone.”The answer here is quite clear. As we said at the beginning of the essay, the new civilization associates sadness with suffering. But happiness is not necessarily synonymous with "cheerful", since everyone can experience happiness in their own way and in different circumstances. Sadness can be a path that leads us from suffering to joy, therefore, it is completely necessary.

All emotions are necessary for individual progress and if individualism prohibits them, repressing sadness, it is impossible to work in a collective, since if one is unstable, the whole system will be. It will also be necessary to emphasize that happiness is a very easy emotion to express, since it is not sensitive. Sadness On the other hand, it is a sign of sensitivity and self-humillating, which makes it more difficult to express. This does not mean that it is bad, on the contrary, our most human part shows us and makes us more attached to others, having a communal sensitivity.
